2014 HAPL Golf Tournament

Freezing cold temperatures and cutting winds didn’t phase folks at the 52nd annual Houston Association of Professional Landmen Golf Tournament last week! Hundreds of golfers, donning their best cold-weather gear, showed up Monday morning ready to play at the Kingwood Country Club in Kingwood, TX.

The clubhouse and courses were buzzing with activity that morning as the country club team prepared for the arrival of the masses. Golf carts lined every possible road way and cart path as far as the eye could see.

Also arriving early that morning was the iLandMan cooking team with a trailer full of equipment, ingredients, and some special treats for the golfers. We got our tents and tables set up as the players began warming up on the driving range right behind us. Vice President Richard Hines lit the fire on his custom cooking pot as we started to work on the perfect dish for some cold weather… a Louisiana chicken and sausage gumbo!

The big horn sounded and the golf carts loaded up and zoomed off, but we were sure to let everyone know that they could grab a cigar now, and swing by a little later for some delicious gumbo to get warmed up. Folks were also very surprised to see our seating area with a wood-burning fire pit where they could come and relax when ready.

The sun started peeking out around noon and the gumbo fanatics began to arrive, some even taking their bowls on golf carts to go. The gumbo received high praise as “the best on the whole golf course” and we were more than happy to be serving and meeting so many good people.

All in all it was an amazing day. Our hat goes off to the folks at the HAPL and Kingwood Country Club for running things so smoothly. Everyone seemed to have a good time playing golf, visiting, eating, drinking and more! We certainly enjoyed the opportunity to take part in such a great event and are looking forward to doing it again.

Look for us next month at NAPE Denver where we will be showcasing our newest features helping you to empower your landmen with an online, real-time, tract-based tool they can use every day!
